The Single Girls Date Night #1

Two of my favourite things to do are eating and visiting the cinema. Just because I'm a single girl who can often be left with only herself for company it doesn't stop my enjoying both of these things and actually I'd encourage anyone who is looking for some time out to take themselves to the cinema as if it's something that can be a rather relaxing and enjoyable few hours alone.

I've always been rather comfortable in my own company and remember telling a friend I'd been out for lunch by myself on a shopping trip and she claimed she could never do that and had recently eaten a sandwich in her car rather than sit at a table alone! I find it even stranger when people won't visit the cinema alone, firstly you'll be surprised how many other lone people you'll find dotted around the screening room and secondly, it's not like you can talk to any friends you take with you.

My cinema of choice is Vue in Westfield Stratford. Typically I'll stop off en route home and potter about doing some shopping, often visiting the Massage Angels, grabbing a bite to eat and then snuggling down to watch the latest film release. I'm not one for relaxing, always on the internet, flicking through a magazine or generally completing odd jobs around the house and this is the one time I will actually sit back and do nothing but watch the action on screen. It drives my brother crazy that even at home I'll never watch a film without scrolling through my Twitter timeline or drafting the latest blog post.

As you can see from the photos the recent film of choice was X-Men Days of Future Past and I bloody loved it. I love all the X-Men films and am really enjoying the rebooted versions as I love to learn a little about the backstory. I won't say too much about the film because I won't spoil it for anyone especially as there is a cracking ending which I didn't see coming but if you love the type of film that is complete entertainment, a good dose of action and a rather eye pleasing cast (you may spot a certain characters bottom) then it's one I'd highly recommend.

Of course you can't sit through a movie whilst your stomach is rumbling so I made a pit stop via Gourmet Burger Kitchen. For a change I went for the Cajun Blue chicken burger complete with blue cheese slaw accompanied by sweet potato fries and the rather odd but delicious baconnaise.

Would you visit the cinema alone or never dream of it?

  1. Hmmm not sure if I could go to the pics on my own especially on a night??? I took one of my boys the other day and like you say there are people of all ages on their own and I think if you go through the day probably more I think I could be brave enough to do it then - I was out shopping the other day and needed a coffee break (on my own) but did feel a bit self conscious as if people were looking - they probably werent - I'm paranoid at the best of times!! lol xxx (Rio 2 is quite good but dont waste your money going to see Godzilla :-) - you can see what movies we go to see - rolls eyes )

    1. I think because I go to a cinema at a shopping centre it doesn't feel as 'night time' like it would at a local one if that makes sense? I think in the days of smart phones etc and usually having a book or magazine on me I'm always occupied so I don't worry about other people and I guess in London it's less obvious if you're on your own.

Oh I want to see Godzilla because some of it was filmed in Hawaii... maybe I'll wait for DVD!

  2. I have visited the cinema on my own a few times, when hubby has been working away or I have and its been something to fill my evening with. I must admit though that I don;t enjoying eating on my own. I think it comes from far too many business trips.

    1. As I said to Ali I think being in London it's less 'obvious' when you eat alone, it's not my preference and there's certain paces I wouldn't go alone but on the whole if I need to eat I need to eat! LOL! x

  3. That blue cheese looks amazing, I'm so hungry, that has not helped!! I always used to do little things like that on my own, and loved it, but now always seem to be attached to the boy when going out for food/movies - think I might ditch him for an evening and go and do it on my own again!!

  4. Went to see X-Men last night (although not alone) and totally agree, it was SO good! Haven't personally been to the cinema by myself but totally would if I wanted to see something no one else did. It'd be like shopping alone really - you get to have some 'me time' and do what you want!

  5. Oooh, that food looks delicious! I love going to the cinema on my own, too - as you say, it's not as if you can chat to whoever you go with, so why not go alone?! x

    1. And far better than going along with someone who wants to chat through the film!
