Products that didn't work for me #2

Since returning from my holiday with a case full of new beauty products to try (see some of what I picked up here) and needing to find new homes for them I decided to have a spring clean of my make up stash. Today's post is some of the items which didn't make the stash.

Maybelline the Falsies link
This was one of the first mascara's I purchased when I entered the beauty blogging foray and sadly I wasn't too impressed despite it's numerous rave reviews. Firstly I hate the bendy wand and for me I receive a lot of fall out and no one wants to look like a panda half way through their working day.

Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow, Birthday Suit link
Last Summer I went on hunt for Painterly Paint Pot by Mac and after visiting numerous counters that were sold out I had to give in and instead search for a dupe. Birthday Suit by Benefit was the recommendation I found and able to pick up. Now I have Painterly in my possession there is no comparison for the two. The formula is very different with Painterly being more creamy and a neutral shade. Birthday Suit has a shimmer which translates through lighter eyeshadows not giving the base required. It cracked very soon after purchasing and has since dried out so definitely not one of the more lasting products required. Also the creaseless claims didn't work for me either.

NYX Natural Eyeshadow Palette link
I've reviewed this palette in full here so I won't repeat myself but in short the pigment of these shadows is disappointing. As an owner of the Nars Narcissist Eyeshadow Palette there is no comparison nor need for me to keep hold of this one. Off to a new home it goes.

Molton Brown Lipstick, Nearly Nude no longer available
This lipstick was my holy grail product many years ago and repurchased often, I even featured it on my blog in this post. It was discontinued, relaunched and then discontinued again but I'm no longer as devastated as nude lips are no longer for me.

Chanel Rouge Coco Lipstick, Avant-Garde link
A lipstick obviously purchased at a time when I wanted to treat myself to a little Chanel and was likely trying to replace the aforementioned Molton Brown shade. It breaks my heart to get rid of a Chanel lipstick but the nude shade is not flattering for me and I will never wear it and that is a far greater tragedy.

I will have another couple of these posts coming up due to my spring clean so stay tuned for those. Have you found any products that do not work for you or remember Molton Brown make up?

  1. Its gutting isnt it when you pay loads for a product and not happy!! I too had a chanel coco rouge lipstick as am on a permananent hunt for a long lasting lipstick - swayed by the fact it was chanel and the sales girls certainty that it would last all day - 8 hours at least - 8 minutes more like - grrrrr - anyhoo the hunt continues with a £5 beauty voucher at Debenhams to put towards a Dior lipstick - have you ever tried that make???

    1. You sound like my SIL, she says she tried every brand before deciding that YSL were the ones that worked for her. I've never used any Dior make up I don't think, a maybe a gloss or two over the years so I can't help so you'll have to let me know! x

  3. If you're thinking of selling that Chanel lippie, could I have first dibs, please, Victoria? (she asked cheekily). I loooovveee nude shades. I've just recorded an empties video which featured a lot of products I didn't get on with - I seem to be going through a phase of 'meh' products at the moment!

    1. You're too slow mum has already nabbed it! I think the problem is whilst I'm 'beauty blogging' I'm a realist and I know what I do and don't like so I'm fussy and want to be really impressed with something if it's going to compete with other products I have x

    1. I think everything is subjective because it all comes down to what one likes personally… I think for me I'm lucky to own and try so many different brands that you look for the standouts x

    1. Totally, that's what I love about blogging that you can hear both the good and the bad about products and then you need to decide for yourself it's a keeper x
