Mac Playland Collection

My visit to the US was nicely timed with the American release of the Mac Playland collection. This was one of the first collections in some time that had raised some excitement in me when information was released and of course getting my hands on it a month before was an added bonus.

In advance of my trip to one of Hawaii's Mac stores I had a look online so I could curb any urges to sweep up everything, yes even the yellow lipstick was tempting me. Red Balloon and Toying Around lipsticks were noted and as soon as I tried them on in store I knew they were coming home with me. They are the usual amplified finish one expects from Mac and Red Balloon especially has a lovely shine to it. Both feel creamy on the lips and are a great alternative to matte lipsticks when you want to pack a punch with colour without any drying qualities.

Neo-Orange pigment is a wild choice but one look at my make up collection, particularly of Mac eyeshadows will note that I'm a fan of brave colours. Last December I wore Mac Rose pigment at every possible opportunity and made the decision that 2014 was the year to expand the collection. I did have the obvious choice of Vanilla on my list to purchase at some point and another was Tan but instead decided on this fabulous orange colour.

On Neo-Orange's initial application I wasn't keen but as the assistant helping me added some foundation, concealer etc and the longer I looked in the mirror the more the shade grew on me and I decided to purchase. As with any Mac pigment you can apply with a light or heavy hand, use on the lips, cheeks - the possibilities are endless and what better time to experiment with orange than in the Summer.

I've included some swatches below for you but Temptalia and the like will have the full range for you to take a browse through.

What do you think, did I make the right choices? Let me know if you have your eye on anything from this collection.

  1. I love Red Balloon and would love to see Neo-Orange. Some times you just need to take that leap. I stepped out of my comfort zone with a new nail polish - OPI's Party in My Cabana (although it seems to be an older shade) and I love it.

    1. I'm trying to sort through my make up collection at the moment and give it a spring clean but I keep returning to these too which is not helping the process! x

  6. That pigment is such a beautiful colour. I'd have to feel brave to wear it, but I'd enjoy looking at it on a shelf. (Sad bu**er!)
Toying Around is pretty lush too! OK, I like Red Balloon as well!

  7. Plus I love the fact that every time you use them you can go 'MAC...in Hawaii'. Well, that's what I'd do!
