We all love our laptops & PCs but often they become neglected in our de-cluttering routines
This weekend spend some time doing a bit of housekeeping of your laptop and PCs
Sort through your Pictures folder; burn family photos to CDs, add your prettiest photos to Flickr, print images saved from the web and so on
Document folders overflowing with draft letters, lists and other ramblings – have a sort through what should be saved, printed or plain deleted
Like me you might flit between various internet browsers and have your “favourites” littered all over the place? Have fun browsing your favourites and seeing what is no longer needed
Want to go that step further? Add favourite links to Delicious so you can access from any PC (a link was always on my laptop when I’d want it at work – not any more!)
Email accounts littered with saved emails of log ins, addresses, old Christmas orders – start 2010 with new a filing system and empty folders
I did this last week and it feels like having a new computer again!
I also sure to delete history, cookies, empty recycle bin and finally using the defragment system to ensure my laptop would be tip top for lots more blogging!
Have a good weekend whatever you’re planning!
Excellent advice!! If you'd like something to do this weekend drop into my place and I'll let you do it all for me ;-)
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Ive been meaning to burn my photos to CDs for months! All the photos make my laptop run so slow. My aim is to do it before i start work next month :)

You are sooooo right!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the majority of people even know what temporary internet files are... or what defrag means and many treat their machines appallingly!!
Then the machines get clogged up with all sorts of rubbish and they wonder why their computer is running so slowly.
Someone we know was even carrying their laptop around the house, each day, by it's lid..and then the screws came loose, the screen stopped working etc etc...!
Maybe all new computers should come with some sort of 'weekly maintenance guide' .
Have a great weekend! ;-)
I've had no choice but to start doing this. My pc has been moaning that it's running out of space, and not letting me download photos until I remove/delete/uninstall stuff. It's driving me mad, and taking ages, but it has to be done. Boooo!
ReplyDeleteThank Crunchie it's Friday!
xx
Brilliant advice! I must do this at the weekend, Have a sweet day!
ReplyDeleteYou're definitely having a very organised phase (or are you super efficient and like this all the time)? Thanks so much for pushinus all in the right direction! x
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I have to do this too. For starters I am decluttering my reader! I have to declutter my photos, but I have more than 30.000 :-( I don't need a weekend, I guess I need a gnome.
ReplyDelete(Don't know how it is in your neck of the woods, but over here we have these little gnome helpers, sometimes doing the things you don't want, but you can blame them!)
Brilliant advice!
ReplyDeleteYes, I am in dire need of a good sort out! I have tagged you on my blog! suzie. xxx
ReplyDeleteI quite agree! Fortunately I have an IT hubby to do all of that for me!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

I definitely need to get around to putting all my photos on cd. I dread to think what would happen if anything happened to the laptop and they were lost. Probably a nervous breakdown!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend too! xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria
ReplyDeleteLong overdue here... a timely reminder, thank you!
Have a lovely weekend
Warm wishes

I really need to do this!
ReplyDeleteJolly good plan, when will I have the time to do it though, sigh?
ReplyDeleteGENIUS!! Great tip -- I think I'll work on that right now!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic advice. Though I back my laptop up every month, I always forget to deal with the important things like burning family pics to disc, etc. This this is what I'll be doing this weekend. Thanks xxx

Oh no it's not annoying - I'm just jealous. I also used to be organised, then had 3 children in 32 months, and now am lucky if I know which day of the week it is! I live in hope that I'll be in control again..........xx
ReplyDeleteall very good ideas - luckily I got a new laptop for Christmas so have been able to start from scratch and am determined to keep the "clutter" under control this time!
ReplyDeleteloved your journal idea on Beki's blog and am inspired to do the same :-)

I do try but you know how rubbish I'm on the computer!! OH keeps telling me off for not doing this, on the 1st of every month I go through my emails & delete thing. Also I defrag & do a disk clean up.
ReplyDeleteI nearly lost my works calender the other day....what a panic! OH got it back & I've now worked out how to back up.
I really need to go through my photo's, so many I don't need any more :) x
