Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Giftset

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Range
I was lucky enough to receive this Soap & Glory Sugar Crush gift set for Christmas and showing some restraint tucked it away ready to use in the Summer.  Once I'd booked my holiday to Ibiza (which I'm currently on) I thought it would be the perfectly sized set of products to take away with me for the week.

Firstly this set was fairly priced at £10 although available on the 3 for 2 offers Boots runs on gift sets at that time of year. I also think it ended up in the sale for £5 if you were lucky enough to get your hands on it.

I've long been a fan of Breakfast Scrub from Soap & Glory and for one reason or another the time for repurchasing had never hit around Summer when I could justify purchasing (although stay tuned for another Soap & Glory post next week). This set was the perfect way to try all the products from the range.

Sugar Crush Body Scrub is the perfect scent for Summer with it's burst of lime that is evident in all the products. The Sugar Crush scrub is exactly the same formula as Breakfast Scrub, thick and coarse enough to exfoliate without being too harsh. I enjoy taking a scrub on holiday with me to use every couple of days to aid tan maintenance. I remember years ago thinking I couldn't use a scrub whilst tanned for fear of it disappearing. Now I realise it actually aids the tan.

I'm really enjoying the Sugar Crush Body Wash which is more of a cream in my opinion. If my bathroom wasn't drowning in shower gels this would be one I'd certainly purchase full size. I do feel I'm going through it quite quickly so I'll have to report back on how long this bottle lasts.

The final product I've brought along to Ibiza with me is the Sugar Crush Body Butter. I took the similarly sized Righteous Butter to Dubai with me last month and found it fabulous as both a body lotion and due to it's thickness it would double up as a foot cream.

The shower scrunchie and hand cream are waiting for me when I return home although I can't wait to pop the hand cream in my bag for the Summer commute.

Are you a Sugar Crush fan?

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Sun Protection

La Roche-Posay Anthelios Range*
Already a big fan of La Roche-Posay it stood to reason their Anthelios sun protection range would be a good one. Specialising in 'ultra-high sun care protection' the range protects against UVA and UVB rays and even better are formulated for different skin types.

I remember during my younger carefree years just slapping whatever product I was using over my face. Now with such an extensive skincare regime I don't wish to sacrifice that when using SPF's so the Anthelios range from La Roche-Posay steps in perfectly.

I had a variety of products from the range which I recently took on holiday to Dubai with me and was able to share out between us all. The comfort range for dry skin or ultra-light for normal - combination and if you're in the oily camp there's dry-touch. There are even tinted BB Creams which allow for a light coverage if you're wanting to look good for your selfies as well as offering anti-ageing benefits.

One of my favourite products from the range is the Anthelios XL Nutritive Oil*. I'm sure we all have memories of runny oils that make us look like a trussed up joint of meat by the end of application. La Roche-Posay have of course created something different. A thicker oil than most that absorbs into the skin without leaving you greasy. This is perfect for arms and legs to add a subtle shine but without looking like you're about to be fried. This can be used on the face too although I'm reserving for body only and it's currently in my stash whilst holidaying in Ibiza.

Of course sun protection is not just about finding the right formula and products to fit in with our skincare regime, there's a seriousness at work. I admit in the past that I've not even considered applying sun protection when we're blessed with one of those rare sunny days in the UK and how many of us have enjoyed long Sunday afternoons in the beer garden to return home with bright red burnt noses and shoulders. Ridiculous, unnecessary and harmful.

La Roche-Posay want to encourage us all to take better care of our skin and that of our friends and family. Skin cancer is the only type of cancer visible to the naked eye and, if diagnosed early enough 90% of melanoma cases can be treated effectively. As such they have designed the #skinchecker video which whilst sharing an important message is very cute to watch.

Have you tried La Roche-Posay's Anthelios range?

My Nail Kit

Whilst I had a visit from Heaven & Gel last night so my nails would withstand my trip to Ibiza as a general rule I am relying on my own skills as a manicurist. Today I thought I'd talk through 'my nail kit' and the products I reach for at home.

Formula X Delete Nail Polish Remover
The first and most obvious step is of course nail polish remover. I'm fairly fickle about my nail polish remover choices and the Formula X Delete was picked up in Las Vegas last year when I needed to tend to chipped nails - not the most exciting of Sephora purchases. I can't deny that I was drawn to the pump bottle and will certainly be refilling this when the time comes. The lock system works surprisingly well and I managed to transport it to Dubai without any spillages last month.

Next I would step in with my Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File which I have spoke enough about for you to get the picture. I love it, wouldn't use anything else and it is always by my side.

Emjoi MICRO Nail Electric Nail Polisher*
My latest nail gadget is the Emjoi Micro Nail Electric Polisher. Firstly this will not magically polish your nails with colour (when will this be invented though I ask myself?) but specifically the condition of your nails. I'm not a lover of nail care and painting my nails always feels like such a commitment of time. Buffing and polishing nails seems such a faff especially when I'm only going to cover them with a bright polish. That said we all know that nails have ridges and none more so than mine so they do benefit from a buff and polish. The mjoi Micro Nail Electric Polisher does this in a matter of seconds. Literally, it says to do it no more than that or you will damage your nails.

Of course using such a gadget might be reminiscent of those nail salons with the drills but this is a very different beast and you are in control a. Smooth rollers rotate and ridges are smoothed instantly and the Shine Rollers polish up a treat it's almost a shame to add colour.

If you're after saving time during your manicure process you can find the electric nail polisher with £10 off at Boots right now.

Cuticle Nippers and Nails Inc Vitamin E Cuticle Oil Pen
I hate my cuticles, if only my nails grew as fast as they seem to. The plus side is I have something of a love affair with my cuticle nippers. There's nothing more satisfy than nipping away at them and leaving a clean base for my nail polish. To treat them I swipe some of Nails Inc's Cuticle Oil Pen which is handy compared to the typical bottles you see. It's obviously nourishing them too well at the rate they seem to grow.

MICRO CELL Nail Repair*
I have be raving about Micro Cell to anyone who will listen for sometime. One of Germany's top selling nail brands it's new to the UK market and so far seems to be under the radar. I came across it at a press event and listened intently to the press spiel thinking how amazing can it be. Well the answer is pretty amazing.

Micro Cell has been developed for those of us with soft and brittle nails. Designed to recover protein molecules on the outer layer of the nails it helps strengthen and protect your nails. I used to suffer from splitting of my nails which has been non existent since applying Micro Cell.

As with most products of it's type Micro Cell should be applied and removed and reapplied daily to set the process in action. You are able to paint colour on top but should still follow the daily removal process. I admit I'm not always as good at doing this but it's more frequent than it ever has been and still seems to be working well for me.

eyeCANDY Top Coat*
I never truly got the Seche Vite hype, nor found it was any better for adding longevity to my nail colour. I put this down to me but since using the eyeCANDY Top Coat I can say it wasn't and I was just using the wrong product for my nails. Another brand that is little heard but easily found in your local supermarket this is an amazing product. It does everything that Seche Vite will do and more. My full review of the eyeCANDY Top Coat is here.

Leighton Denny Miracle Mist*
Finally with have another one of the products where I ask does it actually work or do I just think it does? Having just mentioned amazing fast drying top coats and often using nail polishes with similar claims does the Leighton Denny Miracle Mist do the trick? Honestly I can't say definitively but I do know that I am using it as part of my routine and as far as my amateur eye can see, or touch it appears to.

What tools do you keep in your nail kits?

Talking Teeth

*This post contains sponsored content*

Early followers of my blog will remember that I wore ceramic braces for about 18 months. You can see my pictures before and during and the all important after braces smile by clicking through the links.

Being a brace wearer was how I first discovered DenTek. Their slim brushes* were invaluable for me to ensure there were no nasty leftovers after mealtimes and I still keep a stash in my desk drawer at work for when the need strikes.

Currently favourites are the Mint Flossers* from DenTek. There is nothing worse that having something stuck in your teeth that you cannot get to and I don't know about anyone else but I find that I waste more dental floss wrapping it round my fingers to reach into my mouth! Again there's a few of these stashed in various places and with barbecue season and a lot of grilled corn and ribs doing the rounds they're a must have.

I would be lying to you if I said that I was only interested in the health of my teeth, I also want that toothy smile of mine to look good too. As I alluded to in my post about having my braces removed I found my retainer very painful to wear at night. I must admit that my experience of having braces whilst physically pleasant under the circumstances the service from my local dentist was not the best.

Of course I'm big enough and old enough to shoulder the blame at this but I do attribute my not returning to the dentist to discuss my issues due to their faults.  Casting blame aside in short I stopped wearing my retainers very early on. It's very easy to forget the months gone into rearranging my teeth and the cost and when you look in the mirror and see a perfect set of gnashers then wearing the retainer seems unnecessary.

How wrong I was! In short my teeth have moved and whilst the top row (the main area of realignment at the time) are still 'ok-ish' the bottom are now crooked - and they were not the problem to start with. Of course bottom teeth are generally hidden when you smile etc but in the current world where selfies rule I'm starting to return to the state I was once in and notice them more and more in photos.

My friend has also just have her braces removed and I'm having teeth envy. Enter Sensu and the range, Invisalign Lite.  Invisalign Lite is designed for those with minor orthodontic issues and the like which caught my attention was 'can also be an effective solution for patients who have already had treatment in the past and started to experience relapse' - well if that doesn't sound like me.

Typical the Invisalign Lite treatment can be shorter at between 5 - 8 months which is half of the time it took me previously and fingers crossed I haven't left it too late to have this quick fix. Any yes this time I would wear any retainers provided.

Have you had an experiences with braces in the past and how do you take care of your teeth?

#mydubai | Day 2

Sunday was our first 'proper' day in Dubai. I say proper but by that I mean we woke up in the beds went to sleep in. The day was spent as you would expect, round the pool and realising just how hot the Dubai sun could be.

Over our afternoon tea we started putting together our wishlists of what we wanted to do and where we wanted to eat. Lewis and Lavinia have a friend who lives in Dubai so he had provided us with a host of suggestions, one of which was Sass Cafe which we decided would be the perfect spot for our first night out.

Similar Dress by Warehouse / Original available at Next
First of course we had to take advantage of the pre-dinner drinks and canapes available at our hotel. For two hours there was an array of spring rolls, cheeses, crisps and the like as well as a variety of cocktails. As you can see the Strawberry Daiquiri was a favourite of mine.

Mulberry bag from Lewis Yates / Jo is wearing Amy Childs
Walking into the Sass Cafe was amazing and it's safe to say the evening was in full swing. Entering the crowded bar was filled with people and the music we could hear was from singers walking around the tables and bar area - she even shared the mike with Ben a few times.

Kate Moss might be having a bit of 'moment' right now but that didn't stop me loving the huge artwork of her that dominated the bar area. And reminiscent of that Valentine's dinner scene in the Sex and the City movie red and black balloons carpeted the ceiling.

Sass Cafe originated in Monaco by a father and son team and Sass Cafe Dubai is the first of it's kind to branch out on it's own. It's very much a dining and entertainment experience as evidenced from us walking in.

We were lucky enough to have a table seated right in front of the piano where the dancing were doing there thing throughout the night. As we took our seats music dimmed and the singers swapped over to an even more lively beat.

The extensive menu offered many treats of which I only snapped a few (I did mention that low lighting didn't I). This was my first time trying Burrata and it's a thumbs up from me. For mains Jo and I couldn't decide between lamb chops and gnocchi so decided to share both. Jo was worried I wouldn't enjoy my lamb chops as being pregnant they would need to be served well done but its a thumbs up to the chef who cooked them perfectly to meet both our needs.

As the resident dj started taking over and our plates were whisked away things certainly descended into a happy chaos as people begun dancing on tables and champagne was flowing. We decided to make our excuses and had our own fun outside posing for photos.

Book Review | I'll Have What She's Having by Rebecca Harringon

In My Shoes: A Memoir, Tamara Mellon link
I was part way through In My Shoes the memoir of Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon and throughly enjoyed reading this to the end. Some of the business 'stuff' went over my head but it was fascinating nonetheless. The family drama was like something out of Dallas.

That said it was somewhat difficult to relate when Tamara was talking about her financial earnings being below par or that she was struggling financially whilst she was able to holiday with Valentino in St Barts or share the home of Christian Slater - oh to be so down on ones luck - but nonethless she was a fighter and rightfully gained control of her finances from a mother who is quite simply awful and made her mark as a business woman.

If you're a fan of gossip mags but want something to read with a little more substance you'll certainly enjoy this book.

I'll Have What She's Having link
I'm not a faddy dieter. I joined weight watchers at 21 and never really strayed into anything else over the years - quite simply I love food to much and am too much of a fussy eater. That said of course we often read magazines about the latest celeb and their recent diet plan, admire their body and think well that sounds quite reasonable living off cabbage soup and 3 almonds.

Of course I've never taken those steps but Rebecca Harrington has. I read a magazine article, a condensed version of the book only a week or two ago and found it quite amusing and thought well lets have a read and see how this 'normal person' managed.

I have subsequently read this book in 2 days. Each chapter is one of the featured celebrities diets from Victoria Beckham to Dolly Parton and they are written in paragraphed sized daily diary entries. Very much like a tomb of magazine articles written by a very amusing and witty author. This is not a 'serious' advice book, this is just the musings of a 'friend' who put themselves through some god awful food concoctions (steak with peanut butter anyone?) in the spirit of journalism.

If you want something fun to read as you embark on summer holidays you'd do well to pick this up rather than magazine, also as I mentioned it's written style makes it perfect to pick up and put down.

By the end of it was I encouraged to try any of these diets? My god no.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye & Cheek Palette

Tarte Rainforest After Dark Coloured Clay Eye & Cheek Palette
I hadn't been tempted to place any orders from Sephora's website since it offered UK shipping as I'm lucky enough to visit the US at least once a year and have more than enough make up than one girl can use.

That changed when I saw this gorgeous limited edition palette from Tarte and went about placing an order. How could I not? The price of $38 seemed fair for what was very much an all in one palette. I already knew I was a fan of the Park Avenue Princess Bronzer as it was included in a blush palette I'd brought previously and we all know how good the blushers are.

Throw in the gorgeous plums and golds for eyes and I was reaching for my credit card. Sadly as I hit check out I was repeatedly told 'this item is not shippable to your location'. WHAT?! I was devastated and can only assume it's due to its limited edition status although this was some time ago and its still available online so that may have changed.

So back to the time in hand. After ranting on Instagram about how I was unable to place an order for this coveted palette my fabulous blogging pal Grace asked for my address in a matter of weeks I had the palette in my hands. Isn't that just Blogger Love right there!

The After Dark palette contains one highlighter in Champagne, blush in Unleased and size eyeshadows which I've swatched for you above. A handy guide is included to show you how to use the products together and it was a favourite throughout most of Winter. That said I'm swaying towards the subtle nude rose shaded blusher as we enter Summer and thinking how amazing that gold (Up to No Gold) would look. This is the perfect palette for travelling or throwing into your make up bag when on the go. I have an event with work this week and I'm thinking this might be perfect rather than transporting all manner of products around with me

Are you a fan of these types of palettes for on the go?

Estelle & Thild All In One Tinted Moisturiser Review

Estelle & Thild BioHydrate All In One Tinted Moisturiser*
I used to be quite the fan of tinted moisturisers and BB creams as base products but recently they've taken a back seat due to my preference for a heavier coverage so I was interested to see what I would make of Estelle & Thilds All In One Tinted Moisturiser.

Estelle & Thild is a new to me brand hailing from Sweden where it is one of their top selling brands. The founder wanted to develop a range derived from organic ingredients and you will note all their products are free from parabens and the like.

The All In One Tinted Moisturiser is designed to add a healthy glow and subtle luminosity to the skin and aims to diminish the appearance of imperfections and evenly tone the skin.  Available in two shades, I have 02 Medium which was a little too dark for me when I first started using it but now I have some colour from my recent trip to Dubai it's a pretty good match.

The Estelle & Thild moisturiser contacts hydraluronic acid to plump and hydrate the skin and give a youthful radiance which as someone approaching the wrong side of 30 is just what I like to hear.

The product itself is beautifully and practically packaged in a plastic bottle with a pump dispenser making it handy for travel. The texture and appearance when dispensed is very much like your traditional foundations and provides the sort of coverage you want in that skintone is evened, blemishes concealed whilst still allowing for your real skin (ableit 'enhanced') to show through.

Be wary it is thin and one pump is far too much and I manage to cover my face in half a pump, used with both fingers and brush applications. I'm overwhelmed with the coverage I'm given from this tinted moisturiser.

Overall I'm really happy with this product, it's one step up coverage wise to my favoured Chanel Healthy Glow Fluid so this will be ideal in the Summer when I want a lighter weight but with a little more coverage.

Have you tried any products from Estelle & Thild?

Hydrating Skincare Favourites

Trilogy CoQ10 Age Proof Eye Recovery Concentration*
As we enter hayfever season my eyes can become even more sensitive than usual. It's also the season where long daylit evenings are spent in the garden guzzling jugs of Sangria. Come morning the result can be seen on my face with tired, puffy eyes and dark circles and enter Trilogy's Eye Recovery Concentrate to tackle the problem. A combination of botanicals, oils and natural ingredients including Co-enzyme Q10 in this handy sized roll on provide an eye lift to combat these issues.

Back to the hayfever seasons the roller ball is perfect as it cools and tones the sensitive area and offers far better results than furious itching of the area. The massaging application and mixture of ingredients help brighten the area so I no sign of allergies or hangovers are seen.

I've taken to throwing this product into my handbag as it's perfect for refreshing the eye area after a long day in the office in front of a computer screen with nothing but air conditioning for company. A swipe under the eyes perks things up so I'm ready for a night out with the girls.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Serum*
I was delighted to have an opportunity to try Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Serum as both a fan of Vichy products and knowing it's status as being a favourite of Sali Hughes. I've had great success in the past with Vichy's Idealia range but knowing my smoking can cause dehydration - as well as enjoying a glass of wine or three.

I have been using this serum regularly as part of my skincare regime and am very pleased with the results. My skin has been in tip top condition since using and I'm finding a better wear from my make as skin feels moisturised throughout the day.

The Vichy Aqualia Serum is a thin water based formula as we would expect and I am currently using as part of my morning regime. Applying in the morning my skin looks instantly healthy and hydrated.

Have you tried either of these products?

Dr Organic Snail Gel Face Serum Review

Dr Organic Snail Gel Face Serum*
It's safe to say that when I was offered the opportunity to try the Dr Organic Snail Gel Face Serum I was slightly dubious. This isn't just some gimmick, snail gel products actually contains 'snail secretion filtrate' a product which is said to, along with additional ingredients will soften wrinkles, hydrate, soothe and moisturise the skin.
So firstly the 'snail gel' itself which is blend of proteins such as Glycolic Acid, Collagen and Elastin which aid regeneration. Produced by snails to rebuild and repair their shells and skin should it become damaged so we can see why it is welcomed by the beauty industry - although I never thought I'd hear myself say that.

Dr Organic also add additional ingredients such as Aloe Vera Leaf Juice and Vitamin E to create a non greasy serum which, due to lemondrass smells just like lemon sherbets when applying. The serum is thin and light in texture and I would use this in my morning skincare. My skin would look more nourished and hydrated so that make up would apply easier, and less of it than usual.

Serums are often the product that we can spend the most money on and justifiably so in many cases but under £20 the Dr Organic Snail Gel Face Serum is at a price point many can afford whilst carrying out the duties we require.

I have used this bottle in its entirety so much was my enjoyment and will certainly replace when the time comes for a gap in my serum stock.

Would you use Snail Gel on your face?

Magic Minerals Powder Review

Magic Minerals Foundation Powder*
When I hit 30 I decided that it was time for a little more coverage and began exploring foundations. Scared of liquid foundations I picked up a Bare Minerals Complexion Start Kit and that was my first foray into mineral or powder products. Times have since changed and my foundation favourites are now all of the liquid variety so it was great to return to 'my roots' and try the Magic Minerals Foundation Powder* from Jerome Alexander.

I'm going to start with the packaging both inner and outer as I think both will have an impact on peoples first impressions, my own included. I must confess if I saw this hanging in Boots on one of those JML stands I would likely not give it a second thought and write it off. Whilst our American friends are used to seeing their mascaras and the like in this sort of packaging we are not. It's crazy really that the snob in me would write this off when essentially this packaging is more hygienic than how other beauty products are displayed.

The packaging of the powder itself is fairly unexciting but in a postive way - who can be offended by this compact? It's large and maybe unnecessarily so but I did enjoy the large mirror which enable me to see what I was doing when applying on the train during my commute.

Let's move onto the product itself. What you have is a Magic Minerals Foundation Powder that works to conceal all skin tones covering blemishes, age spots, fine lines and the like. Colour Pigments work with the powder to reveal a 'brighter, fresher and more radiant you'

The first day I went in with my Magic Minerals powder I was not impressed. Any of my post-Dubai glow had been knocked out and my skin looked flat. This is definitely a powder for the fairer skin tones. The coverage was good, did it feel like a cream to apply as claimed? No, but it was certainly smooth to apply and didn't leave a powdery finish.

Never one to give up on day two I decided to make use of some products in my stash that had been unloved. Before applying the Magic Minerals powder I started with the Bourjois Bronzing Powder to warm up my face and then using my current favourite product, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal and a little concealer under my eyes.

This certainly made a difference to the flatness I experience in day one and subsequently was how I used the product throughout the rest of the week with happy results.

The compact supplies you with a 'professional style stubby brush' which was easy to use and helped aid applying too much product so you could build as needed. They also included a round sponge pad which I cast aside without a second glance as they're not for me.

For those that take note of ingredients on their products Magic Minerals has them listed on the back
of the compact. As you can see there is mineral oil in this product so dependent on the side of the fence you sit on this may make a difference as to whether this product is for you.

My overall opionion of this product is firstly never judge a book product by it's cover packaging. This is a great powder which provided good coverage on my skin. I must make the note that my skin is particularly free from blemishes and the like so I can't comment on the more severe cases for coverage. As mentioned any of my suntan was knocked out from using this powder which should speak positively of the coverage it provides if you're concerned about redness and the like.

I did need additional coverage for my dark circles but that is my personal bug bear so I could be being extra critical on myself. If you have oily skin and/or prefer a more matte coverage this is definitely one to consider trying, likewise if you're not a fan of liquid foundations. Another thing to be mindful of is whilst the claims are that it works for all skintones even I with a slight tan from my recent holiday found it was more on the pale side.

Have you used mineral foundations before?
