Last summer Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée’s were
talked about by all our favourite YouTubers and Beauty Bloggers so of course
they were added to my American wish list. When I touched down in Las Vegas last
year my first stop was of course Sephora and I headed straight for the Josie
Maran concession.
Unfortunately the very attractive little pots fell a
little flat and I wasn't impressed enough to make the purchase and thought them
too sheer for my tastes. Fast forward months later, Sephora is shipping to the UK
and the Cheek Gelee craze is back and despite my initial thoughts it made it's way
back on to the wish list for another try.
On our arrival in San Francisco and
after a late lunch Ben decided to head back to our hotel for a disco nap, I
decided to go to Sephora. Again I headed for the pretty colour pots from Josie
Maran. Having recently watched a video from Sally Hughes about colour matching
your blush and lipstick (you can find the video here) I was somewhat
obsessed with finding a red blush to compliment my red lips so decided to give Getaway
Red a try hoping the sheer abilities would avoid any comparisons to Aunt Sally
(if you’re too young to know who Aunt Sally is I don’t want to know!).
Again I was unimpressed but swiped some
across my cheeks that were lacking after our 10 flight from London and my
opinion were changed. Instantly I had a flush of colour and looked awake and refreshed,
it was quite remarkable and the $22 pot was immediately purchased.
Since returning to the UK I have chosen
to wear this blush on many occasions. I love the ease of applying with my
fingers and the flush of colour it adds to my cheeks. Sheer enough to not scare
anyone but enough to take effect. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t buy this
from Oahu when I travelled there as it was where Josie Maran actually lived, on
one of the beaches that she came up with the idea for this product. No the
coconut water isn’t a marketing gimmick, this little gelee’s are infused with
50% pure coconut water.
As for lasting power they do rather
well and I’ve seen some reviews that say they don’t work well with powder
foundations but I’ve not found that to be the case. At the weekend I was
wearing Bare Minerals powder foundation with Getaway Red and went from an epic
shopping trip round London to a family BBQ later that day and my blush was
still going strong. I’ve included a photo of me wearing it below.
I especially love the packaging,
reminiscent of the Bobbi Brown cream blush pots before they changed the packaging.
With colour coded lids you know exactly what product you’re reaching for which
makes early morning make up grabs less stressful. For $22 it’s certainly not
the cheapest of blushes but I’ve used mine frequently and there’s barely any
dent to be seen.
I’m heading back to the States in
September and it’s quite likely another of these little beauties will find its
way into my life.
Such a fabulous red shade - looks amazing on you too :o) Xx

DeleteReally nice natural shade! I was always worried about them being too sheer as well, but I think I might have to give them a go after reading your review ;)
