Unlike women who can chop and change our bags, jewellery, make up and accessories depending on the occasion for men they are somewhat limited. Many of the men I know have if not an obsession, at least an interest in expensive watches. They will tell me like us women are checking out the red soled feet of colleagues or admiring the latest Givenchy bag sitting across from us on the train for me it is the glimpse of watch across the board table.

For as long as I can remember my dad has talked about Rolex watches, friends have received them as wedding gifts or perhaps on a special birthday because without evening walking into a store and asking 'how much' I think we all have a pretty good idea that we're talking not hundreds but thousands of pounds and hey I wouldn't say no if one were presented to me on my birthday this weekend.

If you are working to a budget then perhaps a preloved watch is something to consider? I am seeing an increasing trend in people buying and selling designer goods from shoes to handbags so why not a second hand watch? My mum often buys seconds hand jewellery and who remembers Carrie giving Big a vintage watch for their anniversary in the Sex and the City films?
