Book Review | Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella

It's been sometime since I've shared with you what I'm reading because I haven't felt the inclination to pick up a book and there haven't been any to tell you about!

Until of course the latest Shopaholic book arrived on the library shelf for me!

Unfortunately I'm not enjoying Mini Shopaholic as much as the previous offerings. Sadly the film has somewhat ruined the image of Becky Bloomwood I had in my head and it doesn't feel so personal anymore

Are you a Shopaholic fan who feels the same?

  1. I have to say I have not tried these yet, but agree that sometimes turning your favourite book into a film does rather spoil it.

  2. Yes yes yes, so glad it isn't just Me!
Didn't get very far with the book but hope to get back to it as it would be a shame not to read it.
The film was a huge disappointment, fine for someone Jess' age but certainly not if you've read the books!
Quick question................. who do you think should of played Becky?

  3. Yes, I agree! The film was totally wrong, to me the only similarities were the characters' names and the fact that Becky liked shopping. I have nothing against Isla Fisher, but she wasn't my idea of Becky.

Also have to agree that Mini Shopaholic isn't as good as previous offerings, either that or I'm just growing out of them a bit x

The main thing is the fact that they americanised her she is more of a bridget jones with fabulous taste!!!

  5. I haven't read this yet but I've read all of Sohpie Kinsella's other books, including those she wrote under the name of Madeleine Wickham, and I've enjoyed them all. I was disappointed with the film too, especially Becky, she was nothing like that in the books and I spent the entire film telling anyone who would listen that. My 12 year old daughter loved the film though but she hasn't read the books.

  8. totally and utterly. They ruined it by setting it in NY instead of London in the first place. I was outraged that I only bought the dvd a few weeks ago, I wasn't bothered about seeing it.
And no, Isla Fisher was so wrong for the part. She's a fine actress but she's no Becky Bloomwood.

There are good bits in the book, but in my humble opinion, it's written 100% with a film in mind. I won't spoil it, but you will see what I mean.

  9. Oh, I hated that film. Hated it. Loved the books, though. So I'll probably read this one, too, eventually. But I know exactly what you mean about the film. x
