Months followed and I went to purchase another bottle and couldn't find the counter and was told it had apparently been discontinued. Obviously having reached the point of needing to replace the bottle of this only recently found scent I was obviously disappointed.
My mum always loving a mission managed to actually track down two bottles from a store on a trip to Ibiza (the same store she has since found sold out limited edition Chanel products and the like) and I was overjoyed when I was given one on their return and a second on Christmas Day.
Unfortunately my stash has dwindled to the dregs of one last remaining bottle and I was ready to dedicate a 'one off special edition empties post' dedicated to this product, until I started googling….
We'll gloss over the why I hadn't done this before, and I'm sure I must or would have but the glorious world wide web led me directly to the Jil Sander website where No 4 is still available to buy (as well as a selection of random Fragrance online stores). Whilst I was naturally elated and the link has been promptly emailed to my mum - well it is my birthday in a months' time I wanted to delve a little deeper and discover whether I had in fact imagined it had been discontinued.
Firstly I was interested to note that Jil Sander No 4 was in fact rumoured to be Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' last worn fragrance, I'm in good company. Secondly it would seem that there's little information available on the internet and the wide opinion is that it certainly was/has been discontinued at some point.
Finally I may as well tell you a little more about the fragrance scent itself now you can add a bottle to your collection if you so wish. It would seem that Jil Sander No 4 is a bit of an 80s throwback powerhouse which is likely something that attracted me on its initial purchase. Whist I believe if my findings are correct this perfume was launched in the 90s it was somewhat in homage to the Poison's and Opiums of that time. I do naturally favour strong scents, I like to smell perfume on me and seem to have skin that can work with these heavier scents (my friend will tell you about the time she had a spritz of Boudoir and it smelt so horrid she had to have a shower to remove the smell!) but this means it won't be for everyone - which is kind of handy as you can't track this down on the high street.
Jil Sander describe No 4 with words such as 'captivating' and 'absolute femininity' and there is a ridiculously long list of ingredients that many reviews simply stick to describing it as oriental and spicy.
This was a slightly rambly post as it lost it's direction as an ode of sorts once I'd discovered it was still available so I apologise for that.
Have you had similar reunions with discontinued products?
Yes, I thought for the longest time that Coriandre by Jean Couturier had been discontinued because you just don't find it on the fragrance counters of the big department stores anymore. Happy to see that it is still available from online sources.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a shame that some of these fragrances are hidden and we need to hunt them out!
DeleteIt is SO annoying when a product, any product, is discontinued!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO SO much for pointing me in the direction of the Jil Sander website for this. I wore--and absolutely LOVED--Jil Sander #4 in the 90s and would love to get it again.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have been able to help x
